In a world marked by conflicts and power asymmetries, democracies face the challenge of affirming their values in war scenarios that test the limits of freedom, public opinion, and military action. In 2025, we are witnessing the strengthening of totalitarian regimes that shape both domestic and foreign policy with an iron hand. China continues to consolidate a system of control over society, while Russia, under Putin's regime, maintains a repressive model intensified by the war in Ukraine. In the Middle East, Gaza has become an open-air field of human cruelty, watched by the whole world. Can democracies win wars in which authoritarian regimes do not play by the same rules? At what cost? And what are the implications for global balance? What events from the past can serve as lessons to avoid repeating the same mistakes? Is it bombs that win wars?
